Visits to Lloyd’s and to Virgin Atlantic at Heathrow provided in-person risk management and insurance industry insights for Airmic Members.

Two recent Airmic Field Trips to very different locations have produced strong feedback from Airmic Members.

The Field Trip to Lloyd’s of London’s iconic building on Lime Street took place on 26 October.

“It was brilliant exposure to Lloyd’s and how the market works,” one Airmic Member wrote.

Topics covered during the Field Trip included an introduction to the Lloyd’s market itself, a post-pandemic update from a Lloyd’s broker, a focus on ESG topics, and updates on the Lloyd’s Lab insurtech start-up incubator.

“You made things easy to understand, even for someone not that familiar with the insurance industry, and I learnt a lot,” said another Member.

“It was exciting to go on the tour, and I thoroughly enjoyed talking to the insurtechs – for me, this was the highlight of the tour, as I am passionate about technology and innovation.”

The Field Trip to Virgin Atlantic at Heathrow Airport took place on 18 November.

Attendees got a hangar tour of Virgin Atlantic aircraft, as well as speaker presentations and case studies on operations, engineering, sustainability and insurance management.

“It was my first Airmic field trip and I found it incredibly valuable to sit with risk professionals from a range of sectors and hear about the initiatives and practices at Virgin,” one attendee wrote.

“I’m pretty new to risk management and Airmic is a go-to resource as I learn and develop; with this trip reinforcing some of the reading and delivering insight on ‘real world’ practice,” they added.

“A lot of work goes into these sessions behind the scenes and it was interesting, well thought out with engaging presentations,” another attendee wrote. “Thank you again for offering us some insight into the Virgin operations, risks, insurance and company culture.”

Another attendee added: “Big thanks to Adam, Airmic and Virgin for pulling it all together – very grateful to have been given a place on this field trip!”
