In this edition we note that the overwhelming parliamentary defeat of the Brexit deal proposed by the prime minister, Theresa May, on January 15th made it likely that the UK's withdrawal from the EU—scheduled for March 29th—would have to be delayed in order to avoid a disorderly "no deal" scenario.
