In Memory Gert Cruywagen
Airmic is sad to report the death of Gert Cruywagen, President of the International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations (IFRIMA) from 2019-2020, on 10 January after a long illness.
A life member of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA), Gert was the director of risk of the Tsogo Sun Group, Africa’s largest owner and operator of hotels and casinos. He was also an executive director of Tsogosure Insurance Company based in the Isle of Man.
Gert was a permanent member of the King Committee on Corporate Governance and a globally recognised authority on governance. He also served on industry risk and insurance committees and insurer advisory boards.
Airmic CEO Julia Graham said: “Gert was well known to Airmic members, especially those with captives. He attended our conferences several times. Passionate about professional learning and development, Gert will be sorely missed. Our thoughts go out to his family.”
