Support for members to take another big leap forward at conference

A range of reports, technical papers and guides produced to support members will be published at this month's annual conference in Liverpool.

The publications include a long-awaited piece of research carried out on behalf of Airmic by City Business School into the impact of the digital economy on business models and risk landscapes. City and (separately) AXA XL have also been working with Airmic on programmes to support members on their career journeys - part of a suite of career initiatives to be unveiled at the conference.

Other initiatives to be announced include:

  • The results of the annual survey providing a snapshot of members' views and experiences of the insurance market and attitudes towards risk within their organisations;
  • A paper with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and Marsh on parametric insurance - a highly flexible type of product already widely used in the reinsurance market - and its use by corporates;
  • The results of the annual survey providing a snapshot of members' views and experiences of the insurance market and attitudes towards risk within their organisations;
  • A report on ISO standards and how they can support risk management;
  • A checklist for risk managers when testing their international insurance compliance, including an update on the Axco-Airmic compliance tool;
  • A white paper considering developments in cyber-governance and where more work needs to be done;
  • Updated analysis of the working and impact of the Insurance Act, 2015;
  • An updated paper on corporate culture linked to the QBE toolkit that already appears on Airmic website

Finding a way through the digital revolution

Titled 'Roads to Revolution', the Airmic/City report will give an insight into the dynamics of the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is already having a dramatic impact on the way companies operate - hence the conference theme, "The Future is Now".

"Understanding how the digital revolution is already affecting business - and will do so even more in the future - is critical to the success of companies and the ability of risk managers to play a strategic role within their organisations. The City report that we will soon be publishing is up-to-date and cutting-edge and will, I believe, provide really beneficial insights to members," said deputy CEO and technical director Julia Graham.

Supporting members throughout their career journeys

Airmic will also be unveiling a family of new publications and initiatives created to support members at the different stages of their careers. These are:

  • A report produced jointly with global business consultants Oliver Wyman on the role and future of the chief risk officer and the skills required to achieve such a position;
  • A paper on the professional risk manager journey;
  • A Business Excellence programme with AXA XL for risk managers who have already gained considerable experience and want to move the next level;
  • A City leadership programme for those aspiring to the most senior positions;
  • A brochure, compiled with the US-based Institutes, setting out recognised risk management qualifications available to members;

CEO John Ludlow said the whole package of new initiatives being unveiled at the conference underlined Airmic's commitment to supporting members in their jobs and careers.

"Knowledge and skills are the key to future career success even more than they have been in the past," he said. "It's one of our key responsibilities as an association to provide the information that risk managers need. Of course, most members will pick and choose which publications to read, but there should be something for everyone."

Conference-goers can always visit the Airmic stand in the exhibition hall for more details during the event. "The Future is Now" takes place at the ACC, Liverpool from 11-13 June.
