SIG Spotlight: Captive insurance

Each month Airmic News will be showcasing one of the Association's communities to highlight the growing networking and knowledge sharing groups focused on particular topics or disciplines. This month we take a look at the Captive Insurance Special Interest Group.

The Captive SIG is a longstanding group that has been reinvigorated since the beginning of 2019 and regularly attracts a large group of some of the Association’s most sophisticated and insurance buyers.

For large corporates, a captive insurance company is usually a central part of their risk financing strategy and the quarterly meetings provide a discussion group for diverse mix of captive owners.

“The Captive SIG brings together individuals that have a common interest in Captives, regardless of their industry,” Marc Bentley, Director of Risk Finance at IHG, tells Airmic News.  “The sharing of thoughts and ideas is hugely beneficial as the environment changes and captives become a core part of our business.

“Discussion around non-traditional and innovate products and ways of using captives are most beneficial. Traditional lines are very much ‘business as usual’ but captives can do so much more with the right market support.”

The quarterly meetings are organised by Richard Cutcher, Airmic’s Captive Ambassador, and usually take place at Airmic’s offices or at a venue provided by a member. Currently, the Captive SIG is meeting virtually.
