Airmic CEO "greatly honoured"

John Hurrell, Airmic's chief executive, received recognition for his contribution to the profession, and in particular his role in the 2015 Insurance Act in last month's Commercial Insurance Awards hosted by CIR Magazine. Hurrell was presented with the Pioneer Award at a gala at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair, London.

The judges commented that, under Hurrell's leadership, the association "has gone from strength to strength," and said that his award recognises "his outstanding contribution to the industry."

Hurrell said he was "greatly honoured" to receive the award. "I regard it as recognition for the fabulous work undertaken by the entire team at Airmic. The judges specifically mentioned Airmic's contribution to the creation of the Insurance Act. That project not only involved many Airmic members on the board and committees but also many senior people amongst our Partners. It was truly a team effort that I felt privileged to be a part of."

The 2015 Insurance Act came into force in August last year and has fundamentally changed the legal framework governing commercial insurance. The legislation better protects policyholders and is considered a game-changing shift in favour of UK businesses. Under Hurrell's leadership, Airmic campaigned for years to reform the law, lobbying the government and working closely with the wider market and the Law Commission to bring about change.
