Airmic and the Commercial Risk Europe publication are partnering to host a construction risk management conference in London. The event, which takes place on September 11, will be used to launch a new Airmic Construction Special Industry Group (SIG). Members will be able to attend free of charge.

The event will be covering all aspects of risk management in construction, starting by assessing the state of the construction sector, including looking at the changing risk profile brought by rising use of technology and changes to large project management. The day will flow on to consider risk engineering market pricing, coverage variations and recent claims.

Market development manager Georgina Wainwright says the purpose of the day is "to bring the whole construction industry together. We hope to have property owners, contractors and the market in the room discussing risk and insurance developments and identifying solutions for the sector and insurance market. Airmic will be using the opportunity of the event to lay the foundations for a construction group that can continue to meet in the future.''

On 11 September, risk managers across the sector will come together for a first breakfast where Airmic hopes to discuss the risk implications following Grenfell and potential rate rises affecting the sector. Time will be set aside to discuss the future of a construction SIG. Important details such as membership of the group, who will chair it and how often it will meet have yet to be determined.

"In our experience three breakfast meetings a year is often the best for industry special interest groups," says Wainwright. "At the end of the day, though, it is for the SIG members themselves to decide how they want to work things."
