2021 – a year when the risk management beacon shone in the dark

An end of year message from the CEO Julia Graham

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2021, we remain in the midst of a global pandemic which still needs global solutions. Yet, we also end the year strengthened by a level of adaptability that has allowed many of us and the organisations we work for to respond with agility and flexibility as the pandemic has changed course.

If we wanted inspiration to help us find our way, we can look to leaders like Dame Sarah Gilbert, Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford, when she delivered the 44th Dimbleby Lecture earlier this month.

Talking about her own career path and the study of science, she suggested that we should find what really interests and intrigues us and study that and continue to study that. She added: “If you can find something that you really want to do then you’ll have a great career.”

As risk professionals, we have the opportunity to study and be part of a profession that inspires us and can provide the environment for a great career. At times this year, it has been tough, but Airmic will continue to work alongside our members and our partners as we step into 2022. We have got your back – we will be there to encourage your ambition and help empower your confidence.
