Risk culture sets the tone for how an organisation identifies, values, understands, discusses, and monitors the risks that it faces. Key to a strong risk culture is the concept of risk appetite, which refers to the amount and type of risk an organisation is willing to pursue or retain in pursuit of its strategy or key objectives. Risk appetite and the supporting risk metrics are specific to the organisation, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Therefore, defining a risk appetite, identifying the appropriate metrics, and then implementing it across the organisation can be challenging.
