The second fastTrack Forum attracted more than 100 delegates, who were treated to a series of master classes in how young risk managers can develop their careers.
Airmic chair Patrick Smith, presiding over the first half of the event at the Willis Building, set the tone in his opening remarks. Develop wider business as well as technical skills to get ahead, he urged the audience. Doing so, he said, would provide “the platform to deliver your benefits. Otherwise you’ll just be a technical person.”
Welcoming the prospect of “new insights from new people,” he said up-and-coming risk managers had to show courage to get on in their careers. “People who make it to the top are all brave,” he added.
“In a very complex world, see the wood for the trees. Get under the skin of what real risk is. Understand the complexities. Do you want to lead change or just deal with the outcomes?”
In this special report, we look at some of the highlights of the Forum, which was aimed at young risk managers and those new to the profession.
