“Client-focused professionalism” and insurance innovation high on new chair’s priorities
Incoming Airmic chair Chris McGloin expects the association to encourage what he called “client-focussed professionalism”. In his opening address in his new role, he made it clear that “internal customers” were an important constituency – senior colleagues within the organisation. It was important for risk managers to speak “in a way that makes sense to them”, he said.
He called on all stakeholders to work towards greater innovation in insurance, echoing earlier comments from the insurance forum that buyers had an important to play in making it happen. “My focus is to challenge each of the stakeholders… Don’t settle for doing things the way we have always done.”
Chris McGloin, BSc FCII – career at a glance
Chris joined Invensys plc in 2006 as their risk manager where his responsibilities include enterprise risk management, business continuity and insurance.
His initial career was as an underwriter with the Royal Insurance Group before moving into insurance broking and risk management first with Sedgwick and then with Aon. He has worked extensively with captives and is a director of the Invensys captive insurance company. He chairs Airmic’s insurance steering group.

One of Nicholas Bailey’s last acts as chair was to pay tribute to his predecessor Paul Taylor, who is leaving the Board after fifteen years. He said that the ten-year strategy, agreed during Taylor’s time in office, had helped make the recent successes of the association possible.
