At this time of year many organisations reflect on their achievements over the last twelve months. By considering past experiences, we gain insights about who we are and learn lessons to inform our future ideas and decisions. This is critical for survival – but living in the present and positioning for the future are equally important.
It is also the time of year to celebrate talent and individual successes – as we did at the Airmic Excellence Awards in Park Lane this month. The depth of talent across all entries was truly impressive, and my warmest congratulations to our very worthy winners.
In the October edition of Airmic News we commented on the extraordinary levels of uncertainty in the world this year. Emerging risks and uncertainty are often deeply connected – making them difficult to quantify, predict or manage using more traditional risk systems and methodologies.
Looking ahead to next year, we cannot influence how quickly our world will change but we can position ourselves to anticipate and respond effectively – and to seek opportunities.
We will anticipate change most effectively when we collaborate as teams not as isolated professionals; when expertise is used to support stability and protect value – and to inspire. Organisations with agile and purposeful leadership will drive innovation as they will have the confidence to challenge and change.
This year, risk has continued to become more central to decision making as boards – faced with fast-moving uncertainty – recognise the strategic value of our profession.
As we move forward, dynamic risk management and risk financing must support this context and continue to build resilience with strategic advantage. Smarter and informed risk professionals using fluid and data rich systems will be our future.
Be ready and join us on the next stages of our professional journey throughout 2026.
