Airmic survey results highlight the need to navigate different politics and cultures.
An overwhelming 77% of respondents in this week’s Airmic Big Question survey said their organisations are keeping their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) policy and initiatives as they stand. A further 9% said their organisations were keeping DE&I, but have updated or are updating the language relating to those policy and initiatives.
Julia Graham, CEO of Airmic, said: “DE&I are closely linked values held by many organisations working to be supportive of different groups of individuals. Research has highlighted that DE&I strategies can help to foster an inclusive culture and improve workplace equity.”
Hoe-Yeong Loke, Head of Research at Airmic, said: “The tenor of the debates around DE&I between its proponents and detractors have sometimes fostered more divisiveness than diversity. Meanwhile, organisations have been grappling with practical questions around diversity and merit in the workplace, all while navigating the political minefield of corporate communications.”
The results of the Airmic Big Question survey give a preliminary indication of what the impact of the US rollback of DE&I has on the wider world.
Leigh-Anne Slade, Head of Media, Communications and Interest Groups, said: “When Airmic members talk about people risk, we see how their organisations have always been reviewing and updating their policies to support their people. This may or may not lead to DE&I policies and initiatives continuing or, if they do so, potentially under a different name. But given the contrasts with the predominant trend in the US that the Airmic survey results suggest, the key here is also how they navigate the different jurisdictional politics and cultures of their global organisations.”
