Airmic fires up Special Interest Groups with new autumn programme

Published on Fri, 16/10/2026 - 15:52

From geopolitics to financial fluency, members invited to participate, learn and debate.

Airmic’s ever-popular Special Interest Groups are at the heart of the association.

Led by members, for members, they offer a unique opportunity for risk professionals to discuss, debate and learn from one another about some of the most pressing topics of the day.

This autumn, Airmic has launched one of its fullest SIG programmes to date, with over a dozen meetings, six new SIG leaders and the formation of a new SIG for enterprise risk management.

Cleo Curl, group head of insurance at Landsec, has been participating in Airmic SIGs throughout her career and is the new chair of the property and construction SIGs.

She says SIGs have given her invaluable support over the years and allowed her to build honest and trusted relationships with other risk professionals:

“Peer-to-peer conversations are sometimes the most important you will have. The most valuable part of the SIGs is listening to members share their insights and experiences openly – you can get credible perspectives from some very experienced people,” she says.

Ivor O’Hehir, group insurance director at Croda International, agrees that SIGs provide a unique forum to gain ideas and tangible actions to take back to the business.

“Having chaired SIG discussions, I have seen first-hand the value they bring, giving members practical insights, shared experiences and actionable tools to help manage the risks facing their organisations,” he observes.

The Financial Institutions SIG returns on 16 November, with Amy Wooldridge, Senior Risk Manager at Lloyds Banking Group, joining as the SIG’s new member chair.

The first session will explore emerging risks around AI, cyber and insurance, including silent AI, AI governance and the growing counterparty and concentration risks associated with external technology and data providers.

“If you are interested in attending a SIG, please do get in touch,” says Leigh-Anne Slade, head of communications and special interest groups at Airmic.

“SIGs make our members feel part of a broader community and allow them to share, brainstorm and think creatively in a safe, confidential space. If you’ve never been to one, now is a great time to try.”
