Top career tips debated at first fastTrack surgery

Invest in qualifications early and develop your soft skills if you want a successful career, fastTrackers heard at the first ever fastTrack surgery hosted in Liverpool last month.

Members of fastTrack, Airmic’s initiative for people new to the risk management profession, took part in two fully-subscribed roundtables to hear from experts and debate hot topics on career development, claims handling, and preparing for the 2015 Insurance Act.

Achieving the right balance of skills was a consistent theme. “It’s so important to get your technical knowledge in place early,” according to Iain Hovell of IHG who chaired the careers roundtable. “But don’t forget the soft skills. Come to events like this, talk to people, get out there. It’s so important to build yourself a network in an industry where people move around a lot.”

Welcoming fastTrackers to the session, Airmic’s new chairman Patrick Smith paid tribute to the early success of the fastTrack scheme. “Learning and development is why we exist and fastTrack has been a resounding success. I want to thank everyone for their engagement and bringing their good ideas to Airmic.”
