Setback for CII risk manager chartered status bid

The Chartered Insurance Institute’s initiative to secure chartered recognition for the risk manager title has been unsuccessful, at least for the time being.

The feedback from the Privy Council, which considers all such bids, was that the title of risk manager was too generic to be considered for chartered status at this stage. The CII will continue to review options to progress this initiative, working with other bodies, including Airmic.

"We are very grateful to the CII for their efforts to gain formal chartered status for risk managers,” said Airmic CEO John Hurrell.

“Disappointed as we are by the outcome, this episode only serves to highlight the importance of Airmic's work to define the evolving role of risk managers, the value they can bring to organisations and the skills they require. This imperative has underpinned much of our research and Academy and other training; it will continue to do so."

Airmic continues to maintain a dialogue with IRM and FERMA, who are reviewing certification options for risk managers.
