Airmic will be presenting the Risk Management Award at this year’s British Insurance Awards, the ‘Oscars’ of the British insurance industry.

The association’s chair Helen-Clare Pope will be on the judging panel alongside Julia Graham, chair of Ferma, the Federation of European Risk Management Associations.  Nominations for the award are now open.

The annual event typically attracts over 2000 industry big hitters for a night of entertainment and celebration. This year’s ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on 8 July.

Airmic members are being encouraged to apply for the award which is open to any risk manager or risk management team involved in designing and implementing an enterprise risk management programme and/or insurance programme within an organisation.

Pope said: “This award is a great opportunity to shine a light on the excellent work we as risk managers do. If you feel that you, a colleague or your team deserve recognition, then the awards are a fun way to showcase those achievements.”

The BIA judges will be looking for examples that demonstrate some of the following:

  • A focus on uninsured risks, where a captive or high deductible are involved;
  • Focus on achieving improved resilience;
  • Knowledge sharing among interested parties to introduce best practice;
  • An example of risk leadership, highlighting the use of risk management to support achievement of operational objectives and/or to facilitate strategy;
  • A tangible outcome, whether cost savings, reduced error rates or sustained revenue enhancement.

Incisive Media’s insurance division content director and BIA co-host Jonathan Swift said: “Having chatted to Julia and Helen, I am delighted that Airmic has agreed to present the Risk Management Award. I am now looking forward to seeing plenty of impressive entries from members, illustrating the fine work they are doing across the spectrum to produce great results for their employers.”
