We live in the Information Age. Big and Small data are proving its value to organisations of all types and sizes, and in a wide range of industries with tangible business benefits being realised from improved operational efficiency, product optimisation, customer service improvements and management decision-making. However, cyber risk is now a constant feature of most boardroom discussions, and the Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the need for safe and secure data and information management. We have seen too many examples in the UK and globally of the misuse of data, intentional or otherwise, as well as the effects of organisational exposure to cyber incidents. So, how should organisations adopt policies, processes and systems so that they can go over and above legislative requirements to ensure not only regulatory compliance but also the effective handling of data and information so that data and information enable rather than disable.
