The reality is stark, if you look at most standard household and commercial property policies, they will all carry a war exclusion so any damage would be specifically excluded. Therefore if you can imagine your own property destroyed by conflict, what would you do?

In recent wars such as the Iraq war, the UN initiated the rebuilding of Iraq, seeking recovery from the aggressor. Where the insurance market has responded to political violence and war situations, is the creation of bespoke policies to cover such scenarios. These are not very common and it is truly a niche area in the market. McLarens expert will share their experiences in this area and typically happens in the early days of conflict.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

•    Political violence in areas of conflict causing communication and power supply damage

•    Key considerations in these types of claims including policy cover (Business Interruption (BI)), types of technology involved and captive/self-insured arrangements)

•    Pitfalls to look out for when reviewing coverage in these situations, such as war exclusions

•    Cyber attacks including direct, to supply chain and wider disruption to everyday life in other regions

•    The impact of war and cyber attacks on claims.

Panellists from McLarens:

•    William Wilson, Head of Major Loss – Ireland

•    Nigel Collins, Technical Lead – Cyber & Technology
