We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Insurance Manager to join our in-house insurance team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in all insurance activities across Heathrow including significant involvement in the placement of a £multibillion, multi-line annual programme to ensure comprehensive coverage for all our current and future operations and assets.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team with responsibility for data validation, submission, and presentation to insurers during the renewal cycles. The ideal candidate will serve as a professional liaison between the organisation, insurance providers, brokers, and third parties to guarantee that insurance-related matters are handled both promptly and accurately.

The Insurance Manager will collaborate with internal department heads to provide reliable advice on all insurance related matters, including special projects/ activities to ensure efficiency and create value to Heathrow. The ideal candidate will be able to confidently discuss liability issues with the different departments/functions to ensure they can quickly and effectively understand policy wording and agree liability positions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for devising and leading the claims management strategy across Heathrow including claims investigation, litigation, and settlement.

The Insurance Manager will also be required to engage with our Procurement colleagues in providing insurance related advice and guidance on contractual negotiations with third parties.

The ideal candidate has experience in corporate insurance placement and negotiation of complex terms with brokers, insurers, and Heathrow’s own captive insurance company. They should also have experience in developing, embedding, and leading a claims handling strategy including litigation and settlement of claims.

Your role will involve:

  • Devising and implementing the corporate insurance strategy by understanding current and future operations and involvement in the placement of comprehensive yet cost-effective insurance policies.
  • Leading the engagement program to obtain and analyse asset and activity data for submission to external insurance markets through close collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Managing the delivery of the annual insurance programme, including data validation and submission, and invoice payments and premium allocation.
  • Handling insurance-related queries from across the Heathrow estate and collaborate with procurement and commercial teams on contract negotiations.
  • Developing and leading the claims handling strategy through the engagement with all parts of the business to gather evidence and negotiate claims with external parties.
  • Overseeing the role of the Insurance Analyst.

These skills are essential:

  • Knowledge of insurance principles, policies, and regulations gained through experience and professional qualifications – Certificate CII minimum. 
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills at all levels. Strong experience of effective communication of complex analysis to senior management, shareholders, and other parties
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of insurance market placement including, preferably, construction risks
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight and often fixed deadlines.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Knowledge of regulated UK businesses in the utilities or transport sectors an advantage
  • Extensive experience of insurance products in different markets
