This ‘Data Science and its use in Insurance Risk’ session is run by three Aviva data experts and provides their views on the role of data analytics in risk management. 

The session will give a beginner’s guide to data analytics, data science and AI & automation, aiming to give an introduction on the tools available to data experts to add value to an organisation. Approaches to data-led risk management will then be explored, giving a more specific exploration of the data tools and techniques used in risk management. Finally, we will look at specific use cases in the insurance industry, specifically pricing and underwriting, financial crime and claims, conduct, P&C reserving and finishing on an exploration of if we can use data analytics to measure and improve a company’s culture.

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

• Explain what data science is 
• Explain the uses of data in insurance risk
• Identify where data can be used to enhance processes
