Smiths Group PLC is seeking to recruit an Insurance Director to join the company on a permanent basis.
The appointee will be responsible for providing effective insurance and risk solutions for the group globally. You will lead the development of strategy designing insurance structures to transfer risks from the balance sheet aligning the groups risk appetite and tolerance.
You will be lead contact with external stakeholders, including the management of brokers, insurers and other external providers to develop best practice and processes. You will provide business support for insurance clauses in commercial contracts, undertake risk evaluations and due diligence for acquisitions and disposals. You will work closely with legal and HSE teams as well as other stakeholders in the successful management and resolution of claims.
The role has full managerial responsibility for group insurance manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the activities of the Group Insurance team.
  • Manage the insurance renewal process, including:
  • Developing insurance strategy which aligns to groups risk appetite and tolerance.
  • Working with group and divisional finance leads to agree budgets.
  • Managing the annual global underwriting data collection, insurance submissions and Insurer engagement process.
  • Overseeing post placement activities including premium allocations, recharges, certificates and audits.
  • Represent the organisation as a Director on the captives board.
  • Manage and maintain good relationships with brokers and insurers.
  • Provide technical advice and internal stakeholder training on insurance clauses in business contracts.
  • Manage claims between divisions, the brokers and insurers.
  • Provide risk and insurance support on acquisition and disposal activities including due diligence and transactional insurances.
  • Assist in identifying new insurable risks within the business and make recommendations for effective management of the risks.
  • Provide risk and insurance reporting on significant insurance issues affecting the Group to key internal stakeholders including to the Board, Exco, CFO and group/divisional leadership teams
