This is a key role as part of a small insurance team within Arup and reporting directly to the Group’s Head of Insurance.

The team sits within the Arup legal group and manages and provides global support on key global insurance programmes, as well as advising and guiding Arup’s overseas operations on the placement of their local insurance policies. 

Part of your responsibility will involve the negotiation and renewal of elements of Arup’s insurance portfolio, including managing the disclosure process to ensure a fair presentation of risk to insurers and the negotiation of fair and appropriate cover terms. 

Arup is committed to building and maintaining long-term and collaborative relationships with its insurers and a key part of the role will involve you working closely with and developing relationships with key partners at our insurers and brokers.  Our reputation is paramount and ensuring that Arup’s reputation in the market is maintained is a key part of the role.

Arup is a highly open and collaborative firm and a significant part of the role will involve advising and guiding colleagues across the globe in relation to the insurance requirements for individual projects as well as the scope and limitations of our insurance programmes generally.  

You will also be engaged in researching the causes of claims and providing feedback to the wider business on how the lessons from past claims can be used to enhance our risk management processes.    

To succed in this role you are likely to have: 

  • ACII or an equivalent insurance or risk management qualification.
  • An in-depth technical knowledge of insurance, including international insurance programmes.
  • Previous experience in a relevant insurance management role is preferred, although we also encourage applications from candidates with a broking, underwriting or claims management background with direct experience of insurance programmes for multinational consultancy organisations such as Arup.  
  • Detailed knowledge of the UK insurance market and an extensive network of contacts in the insurance sector.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships at all levels both with Arup colleagues and key external contacts.
  • A good understanding of the sectors Arup works in and the insurance requirements of consultants operating in the construction and technology sectors.  
  • A good understanding of insurance policy drafting and the ability to negotiate enhancements and clarifications to policy wordings in order to provide the most suitable protection for Arup. An understanding of key insurance case law would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages particularly Excel (experience of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Power BI would also be an advantage).

  • Strong prioritisation and organisation skills.
