Purpose

The role’s primary purpose is to support the activities of the Risk & Controls team within the Group Risk Department, in particular the position will have a central role in managing the processes to assess compliance with Group Minimum Control standards.

Main areas of responsibility

  • Coordinating and supporting the performance of effective risk management in the business, by:
    • Working with the risk manager and business management to facilitate the quarterly ERM risk assessment process
    • To support the activities of the UK&I Risk council, helping business units and function to manage risk in their respective areas of the business
  • Educating, training and supporting staff to build risk & controls awareness within the organisation
  • Managing activities associated with the Minimum Controls self-assessment process, including:
    • Maintain the online workflow platform (SureCloud) used for control assessments, by keeping risk & control libraries up to date and reviewed and managing user access;
    • Coordinate the rolling self-assessment of Minimum Control standards across all control standards and business units, including set up of assessments in the system;
    • Provide training to key stakeholders on the Minimum Control Standards, the assessment process, and the online SureCloud system;
    • Review and selectively validate the results of the self-assessment response through testing and evidence review in accordance with Group guidance;
    • Produce reporting and analytics on Minimum Control compliance and action plan status;
  • Follow-up on, and track progress with, risk and control improvement action plans;
  • Prepare Quarterly Updates for the Risk Committee and Audit Committee;
  • Work with Internal Audit to standardise control assessments and improve internal control

Knowledge, skills, ability

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in delivering risk and controls management in a large and complex organisation
  • Familiarity with a GRC controls assessment tool would be desirable, but not essential
  • An intermediate to expert knowledge of Excel and data reporting
  • An ability to undertake controls testing
  • The ability to be pragmatic whilst working in a large complex organisation with a fast pace of change
  • Analytical, with good attention to detail
  • Good operational knowledge of risk and best-practice financial control

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Internal Audit/ Accounting /Risk Management qualifications desirable, but not essential (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, IRM etc.)

Accountability

  • The role will work closely with the 2 UK based Risk Managers and as part of the wider Risk & Insurance team
  • The role will liaise with stakeholders across the business to deliver the risk and controls activities
