TEAM

The Operations Performance & Analysis team sits within the Operational Planning team as part of the Operations Planning & Delivery department.  The two key purposes of the team are to provide develop data science applications and analytical support and direction to the wider Operations Planning & Delivery department, and to provide a consolidated and holistic view of operational performance to support improvements within the wider operation, working with all of the operational teams.  The team is headed by the Operations Performance & Analysis Manager, supported by the Senior Operations Performance Analyst and two Operations Performance Analysts.

 

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Operations Performance & Analysis Manager within the Operations Planning & Delivery team, the Senior Operations Performance Analyst is responsible the development and delivery of insight through creation, implementation and improvement of analysis, visualisation, and local data products across Operations Planning & Delivery, particularly those relating to the performance of the network. The Senior Operations Performance Analyst is part of the corporate federated data science and analytics community and as such works closely with the centralised data functions to ensure alignment and best practise.

 

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead the Operations Performance and Analytics team ensuring delivery of all required tasks in line with departmental strategy and objectives
Provide training and support to team members in both data science and analytics areas
Managing day to day technical problems with the analysts.
Delivering data science innovation, usually via Python
Liaise with departmental areas to ascertain feasibility of new project and strategy ideas, providing input to how these will impact or possibly overlap with both existing processes and past projects
Identify and extract relevant information required for analysing and developing business processes from various databases utilising available coding languages, the Data Hub tool chain and associated capabilities
Develop and maintain complex data modelling such as machine learning to provide the next generation of information to the business
Seek to improve and standardise analysis, methodology, recording and presenting of data products
Regular project status updates
Creation of project documentation as required
Improve and maintain data product documentation
Assist with department-wide projects/initiatives that require input
Support the identification and prioritisation of initiatives for delivery through IT projects
Remain up to date with best practices with regards to data science, analytics, and governance in the business community and the academic world
Build and maintain data products and to provide the department with actionable insights enabling them to make better decisions faster and reduce transactional processing time
Own data analysis from problem definition through implementation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver sustainable and continuous improvement
Summarize complex analyses into simple terms and communicate recommendations to all levels of the organization including senior management
Work independently and have accountability for multiple concurrent projects while delivering accurate and appropriate findings
Provide support with ad-hoc data extraction, analysis, modelling and visualisation as necessary
Ensure that recommendations are followed through to implementation and benefits are achieved
Continually monitor operational performance and disruption events, and identify opportunities for improvement, and proposed actions to deliver these opportunities
Maintaining regular On Time Performance reporting.
Ensure delivery of ad hoc analysis as required

 

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

Essential

Degree qualification in a numerical/analytical subject or equivalent business experience.
Proven experience of working in a numerical, analytical and problem-solving role in a product or service-related industry, preferably in the aviation/airline community
Practical database skills with focus on data extraction and transformation into actionable insights.
A logical thinker with a good analytical background.
Used to working and delivering under pressure.
Motivated, results-focussed self-starter, comfortable in a fast paced and challenging environment.
Organised and comfortable with change.
Excellent planning, organisation and project management skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and confidently, at all levels of the organisation, in oral and written forms.
Strong interpersonal skills – ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Willingness to learn and keep up to date on the latest developments in data analytics and visualisation.

High degree of personal/professional flexibility

 

Desirable

Working knowledge of statistical techniques including time series analysis, multivariate analysis and forecasting. Broad understanding of mathematical optimisation and it’s applications.
Good understanding of formal process improvement methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean or similar.
Experience with one or more coding language (particularly Python, but also R, SQL, VBA, C#, etc.) to extract, manipulate and summarise data from large databases.
Experience with AWS/Databricks
Experience with Tensorflow/Keras and Recurrent Neural Networks
Experience with Tableau or PowerBI visualisation tools

 

LOCATION & HOURS OF WORK

This full-time role at London Luton Airport and will be 40 hours per week.
