The Job

This is a varied role that will see you work alongside a range of colleagues to ensure significant business risks are mitigated and continuity arrangements adequate and operational.

At Southern we are refreshing our approach to managing health and safety in every area of our work. A key task will be to develop a new stand alone health and safety risk register that sets out our risks, how we mitigate them and leads to good reporting on our performance.

You will manage with assistance from the Insurance Officer the Group’s Insurance arrangements. You will ensure the necessary cover is maintained, and keep abreast of market and technical changes. You will work with our insurers and other experts to provide a range of advice, support and training.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a relevant degree, professional qualification and/or be qualified by experience
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of risk management, internal controls, the insurance industry and business continuity management
  • Be comfortable communicating at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Be confident in report writing and hold strong presentation skills, as well as having the ability to interpret and write policies and procedures
  • Be comfortable in working alone or as part of a team
  • Be well organised and able to prioritise your workloads, adapting to changing timescales and have strong attention to detail
  • Be happy to attend occasional out-of-hours meetings and willing to travel as necessary in order to get the job done
