The Risk Manager will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting Affinity Water Limited, our staff, and our customers by providing independent oversight that the company has an appropriate risk management environment. This will be achieved through:
- The further development of our enterprise risk management framework, processes and reporting structure
- Coordination of a robust risk management framework that is embedded in the organisation
- Making appropriate recommendations to enhance controls or risk mitigation
- Promotion of controls and risk awareness
- Assisting in the preparation of the Annual Report in relation to risk management
- Due consideration of the transfer of risk where appropriate
Risk Management Responsibilities
Driving the identification, understanding, and management of risk through the following key activities
- Embedding the new corporate risk management framework across the organisation.
- Refreshing, where appropriate, the company’s appetite to risk, as set by the Board, which is responsible for determining the nature and extent of risks it is willing to take.
- Promoting awareness of risk management through the provision of appropriate training.
- Facilitating key risk workshops to support management in understanding the risks facing the business, including emerging risks, and ensuring appropriate risk responses are in place.
- Consolidated, real time reporting of key risks and mitigation plans to senior management and the Board to enhance decision making.
- Working with the Compliance team to highlight fraud and corruption risks across the company, and ensuring adequate measures are in place to address them.
- Assisting the investigation of concerns raised through the company’s Speak Up / whistleblowing policies and procedures.
- Continued development of reporting capabilities of the Risk Management Database.
Other
- Promoting internal controls and risk awareness through communicating relevant risk and control information, highlighting emerging control risks, sharing best practice, and promoting Affinity Water Limited’s Code of Ethics and Values throughout the organisation.
- Liaising with internal [e.g. Health & Safety and Information Security] and external assurance providers to help ensure risk coverage is aligned and assurance is provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Providing controls and risk expertise, advice, and other consulting activities to the business upon request and where appropriate. This will usually be provided formally through active involvement in key projects and providing real time assurance on ongoing business operations.
- Providing advice and support to management on a range of corporate governance issues, including risk management, internal control, and project assurance.
- Consulting and liaising, where appropriate, with the Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee, Executive Management Team, Chief Executive, Heads of Department.
- Liaising with the appropriate external Auditors and other bodies, where appropriate, on any matters pertaining to Corporate Governance and Risk Management. Remain constantly updated, and have a complete understanding of, developments within specialist areas at Affinity Water Limited and around the industry.
The scope of Risk covers all areas of Affinity Water Limited and close working relationships with the other directorates and their operational and project teams are required.

- You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to further develop the Risk Management Framework, as and when required
- Ideally, have a relevant post graduate professional qualification’ [e.g. ACCA, CIIA, CII], ARM].
- Significant post qualification experience at a senior level in risk management in an organisation of comparable size and complexity.
- Comprehensive understanding and experience of analytics.
- Significant understanding of modern risk management best practice, including experience of risk-based assessment within an internal control framework of a comparable size and complexity.
- Sound experience of the development and implementation of risk management strategies.
- You will be able to analyse data quickly and efficiently, paying attention to detail.
- Word, Excel, generally IT literate and able to interrogate a large number of application systems.
- Experienced in group facilitation - the ability to lead effective workshops in order to encourage real debate and business ownership.
