Looking for your next challenge? Working for the UK Government’s Ministry of Justice your role will be to support us by strengthening our risk management and assurance arrangements, working collaboratively across all parts of the department.

Managing risks is a key part of everyday life, in and outside of the workplace. The role of the Risk and Assurance Team is to promote and support good risk management practices across the Ministry of Justice. We aim to be a leading function, continuously learning and developing, with a strong focus on adding value and insight and developing our people. You will be part of a small and friendly team, responsible for managing the department’s strategic risk register and developing the MoJ’s risk framework.

Your responsibilities will include producing the department’s strategic risk register, including identifying and analysing information and developing risk reports for the Executive Committee, Audit and Risk Committee and Departmental Board.  You will work with risk coordinators and managers throughout the MoJ, its Executive Agencies and its Arm’s Length Bodies to improve risk maturity. You’ll help our risk practitioners to improve their risk frameworks and increase the understanding of risks in their area, running workshops and training sessions as required. It is an exciting time to be involved in risk at the MoJ, as we host the cross-government risk team developing the guidance underpinning the Orange Book, and there will be opportunities to get involved and influence this work.

We are looking for strategic thinkers with excellent analytical and relationship building skills, and who have the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels. It’s a great opportunity to get right to the strategic centre of the MoJ and to develop a wider understanding of the Civil Service.

You will have a keen interest in enterprise risk management and how it can help an organisation deliver its strategy and objectives. This may come from a background in risk management, project management or assurance, or in working with senior decision making functions in your organisation. Although a qualification in risk management is not required to apply for this role, we actively promote learning and development and will support you to develop your risk expertise.
