This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team within the University’s Finance Division. The role sits within the University’s Insurance Office, responsible for the provision of technical insurance and risk management services to the University and Oxford Mutual Ltd. (OML), the University’s insurance subsidiary. The Insurance Office deals with the entire insurance portfolio for the University from property risk to liability and travel, and the work of the team is varied and interesting. This role will predominantly focus on insurance matters related to property and construction risk, including the provision of risk engineering and underwriting services, providing support to the Senior Insurance Officer in all risk and insurance matters relating to the University’s large and complex Estate. About the Role
This role will form a crucial part of the Insurance Office covering property underwriting administration, placing of property construction insurance programmes, risk engineering, risk management and project management. The role will help maintain appropriate insurance coverage, assess and mitigate risks, influence building design, enhance risk management practices, and provide expert guidance to staff. The project management aspect of the role will enhance the University’s risk processing and management. By fostering a proactive approach to risk management and promoting property protection measures, the role will contribute to the overall effectiveness of insurance and risk management within OML and the University of Oxford. You will be based in Hythe Bridge Street and will be required to visit various sites across the University on a regular basis but you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
About You
The position within the Insurance Office requires the following skills and experience :
First and foremost, strong knowledge and understanding of insurance practices and risk management principles are essential. The individual should possess a comprehensive understanding of insurance, underwriting processes, and risk engineering and risk assessment processes, and familiarity with legal requirements related to insurance coverage and compliance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital for this role. The individual will be required to liaise with various stakeholders, and effective communication is essential for gathering and exchanging information, providing advice and guidance, and promoting risk management concepts within the University and to external business partners.
The individual should be a team player capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders, ensuring effective project execution and timely delivery of objectives.
Overall, the successful candidate for this role within the Insurance Office should possess a strong knowledge of insurance and risk management practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and experience in project management. These skills and experience will enable them to effectively fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the overall success of insurance and risk management within the University of Oxford.
