The Insurance Analyst supports the Insurance Department to procure and manage Marriott's International insurance programme to protect the company and its customers/associates against various property, liability, employee and financial risks.

The Insurance department is responsible for designing and marketing insurance programmes and negotiating pricing and terms. The department also reviews most legal agreements to limit the corporation’s exposure to loss and assure regulatory and contractual compliance including policies procured by vendors, Owners and Franchisee’s.  The team maintains broker, insurer and loss adjusting relations and serves as a resource to internal business stakeholders on higher risk activities, insurance and matters across the business.

Reporting relationships

The Insurance Analyst - Europe directly reports to the Senior Manager, Insurance - Europe who has a dual reporting line to the Senior Director, Insurance - International and the Vice President, Business Finance & Administration - Europe. The position does not supervise anyone.

Specific duties/expected contributions

  • Maintain international insurance pipeline, schedules and maintenance to ensure continuity of coverage
  • Assists with the data collection and analysis / reconciliation of renewal exposure information and premiums to determine change in exposure that may impact pricing
  • Assist with premium allocations to include invoice reconciliation and management of annual maintenance schedules
  • Assist with day-to-day broker and insurer matters including timely and proper issuance of policies, invoicing and hotel/office briefs
  • Work with multi-national insurance advisors to determine in-country insurance conditions and review local policies
  • Management of department risk management information system / database (RMIS) to include tracking of insurance compliance.
  • Interpret insurance clauses under Franchise and Management agreements and demonstrate ability to explain coverage and/or potential exposures to internal and external stakeholders or business partners
  • Monitor insurance provided by managed owners and franchisees to ensure contractual compliance and notification of deficiencies as appropriate
  • Organize and develop insurance presentations and/or summaries for internal and external purposes
  • Support with the contractual review and negotiation of insurance and indemnity provisions of hotel and above property agreements
  • Support the risk analysis of vendors’/concessionaires’ exposures including higher risk / hazard activities through the business case analysis (BCA) process
  • Further develop and market the Franchisee insurance offering for improved contract compliance
  • Identify continental coverage gaps or overlaps of insurance across disciplines
  • Support to optimise internal and external (adjusters) claims best practice
  • Conduct monthly claims/loss analysis to ensure data accuracy, identify trends, loss performance and proactively evaluate loss control improvements
  • Assist Senior Manager, Europe to consult hotel and continent leadership on guest and associate claim requests
  • Competitor and Industry Benchmarking Analysis
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, Insurance

Qualifications

Candidate profile/skills & knowledge

Experience:

  • University degree ideally in corporate risk management or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive job experience in insurance underwriting or brokerage or risk management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel a must) and PowerPoint
  • Thorough analytical skills and demonstrates ability to identify trends
  • Strong problem solving skills with an ability to develop or encourage alterative or new innovative solutions when appropriate
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to influence and communicate effectively with insurance and non-insurance professionals
  • Experience with multinational operations and multi-lingual skills a plus
  • Ability to build consensus amongst various stakeholders with competing priorities
  • Positive attitude and a high level of enthusiasm and energy
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise multiple projects while meeting required goals and deadlines
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with both internal and external customers / stakeholders
  • Prior CII or IRM coursework encouraged
