Airmic is the association for everyone who has a responsibility for risk management and insurance in their organisation. The CEO of Airmic has the privileged position of representing a very large proportion of the risk and insurance professionals who collectively both have oversight of over £8bn of insurance spend and help to manage the risks of the largest and most successful organisations in the country.

The new CEO will take over an established role managing a dedicated secretariat, reporting to a board of directors taken from the Airmic membership and working with a large network of partners and sponsors.

Airmic provides key representation services to its members. Over the last decade Airmic has been heavily involved in bringing in the Insurance Act and Enterprise Act and influencing the market regulatory framework and culture for our members. The CEO must be able to assimilate the issues and effectively channel communications to third parties.

The CEO must also drive Airmic's training and technical programmes and plan and promote the biggest risk management conference in the UK. Airmic also promotes and publishes many thought leadership reports including the series of “Roads to ….” publications: (Ruin, Resilience and Revolution) as well as member guides.

The new CEO will take over during a time of rapid change for members’ businesses and for the wider risk community, with new and emerging risks, changing business models as a result of digital and technological disruption, and new regulations in risk governance all of which also bring new demands on Airmic.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and champion vision in Airmic’s purpose, strategy and culture and secures appropriate support from all stakeholders;
  • Develop and deliver a supporting business plan, budget and business model exhibiting financial acumen, embracing change, and leveraging technology
  • Chair the Executive Committee and the secretariat Senior Leadership team to make key operational decisions and to monitor performance
  • Represent Airmic in discussions and at events with third parties including regulators, industry partners, affiliates, overseas risk management organisations and media in the UK and globally as relevant

Knowledge, experience and skills required include:

  • Experience in the field of organisational risk management or worked at a very senior level within the insurance/insurance broking market, in industry/commerce or have held a senior leadership position or has run a successful trade or professional body;
  • Mature leadership with an abundance of soft skills, to effectively communicate vision and desired goals and objectives to all staff members, engaging staff to deliver exceptional outcomes for stakeholders;
  • Excellent people and inter-personal skills with experience of interacting and building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • The ability to maintain momentum by embracing change and leveraging technology to introduce new income streams, develop existing activities to take Airmic to the next level.
  • The individual will need to "get around" the market and members and be able to represent Airmic on the national and international stage;
  • Be energetic, with highly developed communications skills as well as the ability to position the brand and profile of Airmic through an understanding of strategic marketing;
  • Possess the ability to work constructively with the Airmic Chairman, Board and working groups, members and external bodies in providing members with effective representation on issues relating to the business plan.
