We have heard a lot about the need for risk managers to have more clout, especially at board level. The message was reinforced recently by the Cass Business School research for Airmic, which showed how a disconnect between the risk function and the board lies behind most corporate disasters.
Creativeness in insurance will encourage new risk skills.

The Airmic board had a great meeting with partner organisations recently. The group shared views on a number of issues including the quake/tsunami/radiation disaster in Japan and the evolution of insurance and risk roles across the industry.

Recent joiners to Airmic may not know that we have negotiated two agreements with our partner insurers to speed up and streamline the way claims are paid. In 2009 we reached a deal to limit the use of Reservation Rights on major claims, a tactic that generally slows the process and adds to legal and other costs.

Just in case you haven't noticed, there have been big changes to www.airmic.com - and I am not just referring to the new look, much improved as it is. Airmic has been working hard to make the website a really useful tool for members.
